Situated at either end of the golden sand of Juara beach, River View and Juara Lagoon sit facing the turquoise, South China Sea.  Both sites benefit from being located next to river mouths, with clean sandy beds.  Similarly, both sites benefit from having no neighbors.  The chalets, whose doors open straight on to the beach, are built in the Malay Kampong style, blending seamlessly with the homes of the friendly locals living nearby.  A variety of accommodation is available to suit singles, families or small groups.

Back in the 1970s, Time magazine considered Tioman amongst the 10 most beautiful islands in the world.  A lack of easy access to Juara has meant that little has changed since then.  In addition to the stunning views of the beach and the sea, the bay is enclosed by virgin rainforest covered mountains.  This helps to create a feeling of seclusion and contributes to an overall sense of peace and tranquility.

A variety of activities can be enjoyed in the local vicinity.  Most obvious, of course, is diving and snorkeling.  The island is a designated marine national park and the warm, clear waters in the area boast an abundance of marine life and coral reefs.  Other activities include kayaking, sailing, jungle trekking and rock climbing.

Living in such a pure and striking environment, it is hard not to feel a sense of duty to help protect it.  For that reason, we have set up a turtle hatchery project to aid the turles that come to Juara to lay eggs and who will be threatened by continued development in the bay. We believe the pituresque splendor of this spectacular place is all that is needed to tempt a prospective visitor and so don’t expect the usual tourist treats; we don’t do karoke!  In that respect, some may consider us an  unconventional resort.  That’s of no concern to us and if that’s what you’re after, then look elsewhere.

Tioman can be reached by flying from Kuala Lumpur, or Singapore.  A ferry runs regularly from Mersing.

The operating stance of both River View and Juara Lagoon is the sustainable defense of an area of outstanding natural wealth and beauty.  Principally non-profit making, it is possible to enjoy a pristine environment without destroying it.
